For further information click here Apply Online Link Primary Objective As a member of a multidisciplinary team provide assessment, treatment, consultancy and education for Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islanders experiencing acute dysfunction associated with mental illness or mental disorder to ensure that these consumers feel culturally safe and their social and emotional well-being needs are met educate staff regarding culturally appropriate communication, kinship relationships and interactions to ensure culturally safe practice. Key Duties and Responsibilities 1. Provide cultural advice and liaison to staff across seven clinical teams, including visiting consumers in both urban and remote areas participate in professional development and staff education activities and assist with planning health education programs within the community. Provide orientation of new staff members to the Aboriginal communities of Alice Springs and surrounding areas. 2. Within a multidisciplinary team framework, assist in the supervision and delivery of culturally appropriate, comprehensive and quality care, consistent with National Mental Health Standards and contemporary practice and promoting the use of best practice models in a community setting, within the context of a recovery framework. 3. Promote and effectively use interpreters to ensure culturally safe care is provided to consumers of diverse cultures. 4. Provide a clinical role to the Team and provide clinical education on that role to students and allied health professionals. 5. Assist in continuous quality improvement (CQI) activities and audits to ensure national healthcare accreditation standards are achieved and maintained and contribute to the implementation, review and evaluation of evidence-based policies, protocols and clinical practice standards to ensure currency and consistency. 6. Ensure compliance with relevant legislation including Mental Health & Related Services Act and Department of Health policies, procedures and guidelines and follow defined service quality standards, work health and safety policies and procedures relating to the work being undertaken in order to ensure high quality, safe services and workplaces. Selection Criteria Essential 1. Registration with the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders Practitioner Board of Australia and the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency as an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Practitioner, holding a current Annual Practicing Certificate. Has a Diploma in ATSI Primary Health Care (or working towards) 2. Demonstrated range of postgraduate employment experience including in a community mental health setting with extensive experience and demonstrated competence as a practitioner, with knowledge of psychiatric disorders, contemporary practice and provision of mental health services to consumers with serious mental health problems and complex needs in a community setting including experience in crisis intervention, along with a demonstrated ability to create and utilise mainstream community supports for the attainment of consumer outcomes. 3. Demonstrated knowledge of risk assessments, including assessment of mental states, immediate needs and planning for ongoing care with a demonstrated ability to communicate effectively orally and in written form. 4. Ability to work autonomously in a team and effectively organize own workload with a capacity to work effectively as a member of a multidisciplinary team including an ability to interact effectively with people of diverse cultures. 5. Demonstrated experience in developing and maintaining collaborative partnerships with relevant agencies, community organisations, consumers and carers within the framework of integrated service delivery reflecting knowledge of best practice and effective outcome focus. 6. Proven competency with computer technology and patient information systems. Desirable 1. Post Graduate qualifications in Mental Health.
